"Caring, Creating, Changing the Way the World Views Alzheimer's.
The Alzheimer’s Alliance has educated thousands of people through annual conferences, news-letters, a website www.aaaalliance.net), church programs, senior community centers, health fairs, and home visits.

According to research, more than 5 million people have Alzheimer’s disease, for which there is no known cure.  Some studies show that African Americans tend to get Alzheimer’s at a higher rate than some other ethnic groups.   Realizing that “Knowledge is power,” Cynthia and a group of dedicated volunteers have developed readable, materials   for senior citizens and caregivers in the African American community.

Our motto is, “Caring, Creating, Changing the Way the World Views Alzheimer’s Disease.”  Our mission is to help people understand diseases of the brain and to underline the need to embrace and support stalwart caregivers in African American families.  The volunteer team includes a licensed psychiatrist, social workers, clergy, lay people, and nurses.  A typical workshop or conference consists of providing participants with a clear understanding of Alzheimer’s and why it is sometimes called “old timers disease” or senility.  Other topics include ways in which caregivers can care for themselves and prevent burnout.   Cynthia uses her pastoral skills to provide words of hope and inspiration in her closing section on faith and illness.
